12 Feared Dead in Plane Crash in Kenya

All 12 people on board are feared to have died in a plane crash in the coastal area shortly after take off. The aeroplane crashed on the morning of October 28, 2025 and was engulfed in flames with no survivors reported.

Verified videos circulating online show the plane burning to ashes.

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCCA) confirmed the accident through a press release at around 10.50am. According to the regulator, the aircraft with registration number 5Y-CCA was flying from Diani Airport to Kichwa Tembo before coming down at 0530Z (around 8.00am).

“Government agencies are already on the site to establish the cause of the accident and its impact,” said KCCA in its press release.

“Fatal plane crash Kwale. 12 pax on board. No survivors. Mombasa Air. Accident Notification, RRV203, 5YCCA, C208 Diani to Kichwa Tembo crashed in Kwale Simba area at 0530Z, POB 12. From the Kwale County commander who is on site the aircraft is completely destroyed and no survivor.” Kenya Police Media posted on their Facebook page.

The aircraft that crashed belongs to Mombasa Air Safari. The identity of the people onboard has not been publicly confirmed, but police said they are making efforts to contact their families.

Diani is a popular light aircraft boarding stage for tourists who explore Kenya’s vast attractions including the world famed Maasai Mara Game Reserve, after landing at the Moi International Airport in Mombasa.

Kichwa Tembo is a famous tented camp within the Maasai Mara where both local and international tourists experience the thrill of the Big Five, the Great Migration of the wild beest, and indulge in the Maasai culture at the edge of the Oloololo escarpment.

The area, like most regions in the south and west of the country, is experiencing heavy rains in this period.

Air Safety has been a going concern for the international air transporters association (IATA), topping the list of demands for the ICAO member governments to act upon in 2025 onwards.
