Liquid Intelligent Technologies has appointed Leah Nakazwe Kooma as the new Chief Executive Officer of its Zambia operations, marking a significant leadership shift for the pan-African technology firm as it accelerates its regional growth strategy.
The appointment, which takes effect on April 1, 2026, places Nakazwe at the helm of one of the company’s key Southern African markets. Liquid Intelligent Technologies is part of Cassava Technologies, a major player in Africa’s digital infrastructure and connectivity space.
Nakazwe brings more than 20 years of experience spanning telecommunications, financial services, and media, an interdisciplinary background that the company says positions her to steer the next phase of expansion.
“Leah’s leadership is pivotal at this stage for our Zambia business and the broader region,” said Wellington Makamure, CEO for Sub-Saharan Africa at Cassava Technologies, noting her track record in delivering results and scaling operations.
Career Built Across Key African Sectors
Nakazwe began her career in banking at Barclays before transitioning into telecommunications with Celtel, where she worked across multiple African markets. Her trajectory reflects a steady climb through customer-facing and commercial leadership roles.
She later joined the founding team of Vodafone Zambia in 2016, where she played a central role in launching the country’s first 4G LTE network as Chief Sales and Distribution Officer.
Her experience in digital consumer markets was further sharpened at MultiChoice Zambia, where she held several senior roles including GOtv Commercial General Manager, Chief Customer Officer, and eventually Managing Director.
This blend of telecoms infrastructure expertise and consumer business leadership is expected to be critical as Liquid Zambia competes in an increasingly data-driven economy.
Strategic Timing for Liquid Zambia
Nakazwe’s appointment comes at a time when Liquid Intelligent Technologies is deepening its footprint across Africa, investing heavily in fibre networks, cloud services, and cybersecurity solutions.
The company operates in over a dozen African countries and plays a central role in enabling enterprise connectivity, data centres, and digital transformation initiatives.
In Zambia, the focus is expected to be on expanding high-speed connectivity, strengthening enterprise solutions, and supporting the country’s growing demand for digital services.
“I believe that, together with my team, we can take it to the next level,” Nakazwe said, pointing to her background in sales, marketing, and customer experience as key to understanding evolving user needs.
Nakazwe holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Development Studies from the University of Zambia and an MBA from the University of South Wales. She also serves on several boards, including as Chair of the Mulungushi International Conference Centre, and is affiliated with professional bodies such as the Institute of Directors and Business Professional Women International.
Her appointment underscores a broader trend of increasing female leadership in Africa’s technology and telecommunications sectors industries historically dominated by men.
Nakazwe steps into the role at a time when telecom and technology companies across Africa are under pressure to deliver faster connectivity, expand digital services, and support enterprise innovation.
Her leadership will likely be judged on how effectively Liquid Zambia can scale infrastructure while maintaining service quality in a competitive market.
