Ampersand Unveils New Electric Motorbike in Major Rebrand

Pioneer electric motorbike technology company Ampersand has unveiled a new motorcycle dubbed Alpha in a major rebrand.

The company stated in a press release on May 12, 2025 that it was adopting the name Alpha for its motorbikes in a bid to separate brand identities.

You will no longer see Ampersand motorcycles, but Alpha. However, the motorbikes will still be powered by Ampersand and the rebrand does not affect the company’s swap stations name.

The e-bike tech company also reiterated that its technology was an open ecosystem that supports multiple vehicle options. This means other brands can also use its formerly proprietary energy infrastructure.

By opening our batteries and network to other manufacturers, we can accelerate the transition to sustainable transportation while creating a more robust ecosystem that benefits all participants. Partnering with other motorcycle manufacturers also allows a much wider range of vehicles to become available to Africans far quicker, at lower prices, and in more countries than one company could ever do itself.

Alpha Electric Motorbike with Over 50 Upgrade Enhancements

The electric mobility company that majorly operates in Rwanda and Kenya said its new motorbike had over 50 enhancements.

Key among the enhancements is the Hill Park Device. The feature prevents the bike from rolling back on steep inclines when the rider has stopped. This ensures “safer hill starts and reducing rider fatigue during frequent stops on slopes.”

Ampersand’s new motorbike also has an upgraded suspension system which delivers smoother shock absorption. This feature offers greater comfort and control to riders on uneven roads while reducing strain on the bike’s frame, making it fit for the rugged terrains especially in the countrysides where adoption is picking up.

Other notable enhancements include a more rugged front tyre and reinforced wheel rim for offroad riding, reinforced wheel rim, modified steering system that allows for tighter manoeuvres in urban traffic and confined spaces, as well as a reinforced upper triple clamp to increase steering column durability, hence providing improved stability and handling under heavy loads or at higher speeds.

Ampersand powers over 5,700 EVs and manages approximately 18,000 battery recharges and swaps every day.

The company has integrated AI and its IoT battery management platform ensures real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and 99.72% uptime across the network.

Alpha isn’t just a name—it’s a legacy. This motorcycle pioneered the electric mobility revolution in Africa, and the new Alpha generation carries forward that legacy while establishing a distinct identity that riders can rally behind with pride.
