Enviroserve Kenya is the winner of the WEEE Pilot Project supported by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection.
The winner was announced during Kenya’s first ever e-waste management summit held at the Strathmore Business School from September 16 – 18,
Through the support of the AHK Eastern Africa – Delegation of German Industry and Commerce for Eastern Africa Greentech Innovation Programme, Enviroserve will embark on building and delivering Kenya’s first solar panel recycling factory.
The startup will also use the support to recover valuable materials from end-of-life solar panels and explore the use of recovered glass within Kenya’s value chain — helping to reduce imports and support a circular economy.
Enviroserve aims to reduce the cost of responsible solar panel disposal for businesses and consumers and provide a scalable alternative to landfill to support Kenya’s rapidly growing solar industry.
Kenya was the first country to start using solar roofing in the world, and households have been fast adopting solar energy not just for lighting homes but also powering machinery and facilities.
AHK Eastern Africa conducts tailor-made or project-based market research, building up business networks and connecting German businesses with stakeholders in respective markets, fact-finding missions within East and African markets, supporting companies to open a business in respective markets and organizing subject matter events with a big sector-specific participation. Other major activities are market studies, project implementation and trade and delegation visits.
