Epson has transitioned to renewable energy sources in all its operations across the world. The shift to clean energy was completed in December 2023.
This makes the Japanese company the first in its industry to fully go green. Seiko Epson Corporation which is widely known for manufacturing printers consumes about 876 GWh every year.
With the transition to renewable energy, the company projects to cut its annual carbon emissions by 400,000 tonnes.
Epson has outlined its green focused goals in an ambitious Environment Environmental Vision 2050. While some corporations are exploiting the growing carbon credits markets, the Epson purposes to completely eliminate the use of underground resources and achieve carbon negative status.
The electronics company announced and began its transition in March 2021, achieving it in Japan in November of the same year.
Its 100 percent global achievement in December 2023 makes it one of the few electronic companies to have followed up on their commitments towards climate change issues.
Epson’s Global President Yasunori Ogawa emphasized that the company had for over the last eighty years actively protected the environment. He highlighted initiatives such as preserving Lake Suwa as well as being the first company to eliminate CFCs from its manufacturing.
Beyond just using renewable energy, Epson is committed to promoting its broader adoption. This includes generating its own renewable energy and fostering new energy sources through collaborative efforts. Epson also plans to reduce energy usage in production and products and to advance in recycling resources, furthering its commitment to environmental sustainability.Mukesh Bector, Epson Regional Head for East and West Africa
