Kenya Airways and Air Tanzania have signed a collaboration MoU to strengthen cooperation and enhance connectivity across East and South Africa.
The signing ceremony happened at the Johari Rotana Hotel in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on July 28, 2025.
The agreement that was signed by Kenya Airways Group Managing Director and CEO Allan Kilavuka (front left) and Air Tanzania CEO Peter Ulanga (right) will see the airlines collaborate in key areas such as route and network development, cargo, maintenance and repair operations (MRO), safety, innovation, and human resource cooperation.
The collaboration is a boost especially to Air Tanzania which has been experiencing problems with the EU and was banned for what experts termed as ‘serious safety failures’.
This collaboration marks a significant milestone in our efforts to expand our regional presence and better serve the growing demand for air travel in Africa. Together with Kenya Airways, we are creating a stronger, more connected aviation landscape that will benefit our economies and our people.

Kenya Airways has in recent times been focusing more on partnerships that promote collaboration over competition after making profit for the first time in the last financial year since 2013.
The airline announced a KES 513 million after a hefty KES 21.7 billion loss in the preceding year 2023.
What Kenya Airways – Air Tanzania MoU entails
According to the MoU between Kanye Airways and Air Tanzania, KQ subsidiary Kenya Airfreight Handling will collaborate with Air Tanzania on delivering perishable cargo through its state-of-the-art cold chain facilities.
The airlines will also exchange knowledge, expertise and best practices in various domains such as cargo operations, human resource training, engineering, aircraft maintenance, technical cooperation, maintenance and repair operations (MRO), safety and innovation.
This partnership underscores our commitment to building regional capacity to support economic growth, trade and tourism across East Africa. By collaborating closely with Air Tanzania, we can jointly offer our passengers and cargo clients more flexible and efficient travel solutions.
