Plans by Kenyan Bus company to export 100 electric buses to Rwanda in the next 10 months are in motion.
BasiGo announced on March 6 2025 that 28 new electric buses will be delivered to Rwanda between April and May. The shipment comes just a year after the company completed its pilot project in December 2023.
The buses will be deployed to ferry passengers within Kigali as well as between the capital and other cities.
Rwanda is a leading adopter of sustainable electric mobility having banned importation of non-electric motorcycles for its public transportation system late last year.

Electric vehicle companies in Kenya are working harder to meet an ever-growing demand of electric motorbikes and buses within the country and across the borders.
said Doreen Orishaba, Managing Director of BasiGo Rwanda said the company was confident in its capacity to meet the Rwandan bus market needs.
Already, BasiGo has said it had received over 360 reservations for Electric buses from Rwandan bus operators who seek to either replace their aging diesel buses or expand their fleet.
BasiGo is proud to be delivering the largest shipment of electric buses to date into Rwanda. Rwanda’s commitment to sustainable transport has created an ideal environment for private sector investment and innovation into E-mobility. With this first major shipment of electric buses, BasiGo is proud to help Rwanda take a major step towards the goal of universal, electrified public transport for the country.
