Makueni Launches a Real Time Monitoring System for County Projects

makueni real time project monitoring feature

Makueni county has launched a real time projects monitoring system that is accessible to the public.

Governor Mutula Kilonzo has implemented the digital system which will help to monitor and track projects by the county government, furnishing residents and stakeholders with updates on the county’s developmental trajectory.

The Makueni Projects Monitoring and Tracking System (PMTS) web portal gives insight in the current projects, completed projects, projects that are yet to kick off, and projects that have stalled for one reason or the other.

Against each project is the budget that was said aside for it, as well as the scope of work being done.

The portal also gives the public a simple feedback form for every project, where one can send their views concerning any project.

With these real-time insights into project status which starts from Cabinet Paper approval by the governor to budget allocation, procurement, contract awards, completion status, and project locations, Makueni has set the pace for accountability in the devolved units.

Governor Kilonzo launched the portal last week in a bid to promote transparency. County governments are accused of enabling corruption through shadowy deals and expenditure that that cannot be accounted for.

Makueni has therefore set the pace for the rest of the 46 counties to enable real time identification and tracking of all developmental projects from the financial year 2022/2023.

Unfortunately, there is no data for projects implemented before 2022.

Out of the 578 projects implemented so far in Makueni, the Department of Infrastructure, Public Works and Transport takes the bulk of the budget with 58 projects. However, a quick check only provides data for 18 ongoing and 9 completed projects with 1 that is stalled. There is no information on the status of the rest of the projects, even though the location (subcounty) in which the projects are being developed are identified.
