Police in Nairobi have nabbed a cocaine drug mule at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Monday November 4.
The Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) seized cocaine worth an estimated street value of KES 3.6 million that the trafficker had swallowed with intent to distribute in Kenya.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), the suspect landed at JKIA from Addis Ababa with a stomach full of cocaine pellets and the police intercepted her just moments later following intelligence leads.
The 34-year-old woman was identified as Muli Ayan Ndunge.
“She had just touched down from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, when detectives, acting on precise intelligence, quietly closed in. She was escorted to the ANU offices for observation, and within minutes, the truth began to spill out, as she emitted 14 pellets of cocaine.” The DCI said on their social media page.
The drug mule had swallowed 28 pellets weighing 912.74 grams (approximately a kilogram), which detectives said could fetch KES 3, 650, 960 on the streets.
Detectives used x-ray machines to scan the suspect and esnure there were no more pellets in her body before holding her in remand awaiting prosecution.
JKIA was in the spotlight recently after a KTN expose of senior airport staff assisting drug trafficker Da Mata Dos Santos bypass security check while carrying cocaine worth billions of shillings, only for the man to be apprehended at the Heathrow Airport in London.
While Ndunge remains in custody, the DCI provided contacts on which anyone could give intelligence anonymously to curb crime at all levels.
