The list for the TikTok Awards 2025 is out and Kenyans have dominated the sub-Saharan region nominations. And it’s not all about dance.
Kenyan creators who have made it for the finals address key issues spanning education, environmental challenges, sports among other social issues.
Among the Kenyan nominees is Clem who is nominated in two categories: Creator of the Year and Education Creator of the Year.
Through his handle @englishwithclem, Clem simplifies English language lessons that are palatable to anyone keen on learning he English language across the world. Making education accessible was key in his nomination.
Another nominee in the Education Creator of the Year category is Roy Kanyi (@roy.kanyi), who focuses on technology education and innovation. His videos help tech users make informed decisions as they interact with every day technology.
Kenya has two nominations in the Sports Creator of the Year category. BoxToBox Regista @boxtoboxregista and Zoza Sports Cast @zozasportscast have become popular for their lively football commentary combined with in-depth analysis attracting audience from across the continent.
Environmentalist Anita Soina @anitasoina will carry Kenya’s flag in the Social Impact Creator of the Year category for content on environmental issues and emerging social impacts. Soina continues to amplify conversations on climate action and youth participation an.
In the same category, Valerie Keter @valerie_keter is nominated for her content built around community empowerment and advocacy for women issues.
Nairobi-based digital artist Tunero Animations @tunero_animations is nominated in the Rising Star of the Year category for the creative animations and humorous sketches inspired by everyday Kenyan life.
The dominance underscores Kenya’s dominance in social media use, with the country having been named in 2025 as having the most engaged users in the world.
It also shows that social media, especially TikTok, is not all about dance – more and more older generations are joining the platform for sharing impact stories and driving business.
