On September 11, Kenya Airways and RoamBuddy launched the KQSafari Data that will enable passengers to enjoy affordable, seamless, and reliable mobile connectivity across the world.
The plan so far covers 180 countries across all the regions, providing 2,250 roaming plans as at the time of writing this article.
While traditional roaming costs are usually high, depending on the country you are in at any particular moment, KQSafari Data offers flexible options for users through its country, regional and global packages at a lower cost.
However, while the data plan removes one pain point, only users with smartphones that have eSIM capability will enjoy the packages at the moment.
How to enable eSIM on Your Phone
An eSIM profile contains carrier and network subscription information, just like a normal SIM card. You can download it directly into your phone if the device is eSIM enabled.Not all mobile smartphones have eSIM technology.
To use KQSafari Data, you will have to download and enable the data-only roaming eSIM and purchase a data plan package. The data packages are all prepaid services.
Once you have purchased the data bundle, you can make calls or send messages through applications like Skype, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Viber, WeChat, among other messaging apps that use the internet. You will not however be able to make normal voice calls or send SMS.
To enable eSIM capability, follow the process below:
- Go to Settings
- Select Connections
- Choose SIM Card Manager.
- Choose eSIM and complete the purchase. (if this option is not available, it means your device cannot work with eSIM technology.)
- To buy data Tap on ‘Add Mobile Plan’ tab in the eSIMs section.
Remember you can purchase more than one eSIMs, and these can be used for voice calls and SMS if they are not data-only.
To activate the Kenya Airways eSIM data roaming plan, you will get a QR code which you can then install at any time on your phone.
