Notably, she spearheaded an international climate change initiative in collaboration with the University of Ghent and Brussels University, aimed at postgraduate climate education and environmental outreach.
“Returning to her alma mater, where she earned her PhD with a dissertation titled “The Diversity of Medicinal Plant in Kakamega Forest: A Taxonomic and Pharmacological Approach,” Prof. Nyunja is poised to transform Maseno into a beacon of research excellence.”
Regina Nyunja started her academic journey teaching at the highest level as Tutorial Fellow (1998–2003) and Lecturer (2003–2010) at Maseno, to Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, and Dean roles at JOOUST. She began her career with experience as a Research Scientist at the National Museums of Kenya (1992–1998).
In her new role, Prof. Nyunja envisions leveraging Maseno University’s strategic location—with its proximity to water bodies and expansive land—for hands-on, impactful research.
